Why I miss people… even though I don’t like people

The Human Connection Paradox
Because it turns out... even introverts need a nervous system buddy.
↓ ↓ ↓
Hey Reader,
What I love about working from home now is that I get to spend so much time with my dogs.
Marley always in his spot on the couch
Mookie assumes position at my feet
But what I didn’t anticipate… is how much I miss seeing people throughout the day - even though I also hate seeing people throughout the day.
I know. Conundrum.
Turns out, your nervous system doesn’t care whether you’re an introvert, extrovert, or selectively social - it’s still wired for connection. Even the strongest self-regulators need co-regulation sometimes.
And when you go too long without it, your system quietly slips into low-power mode. You might start feeling foggy, disconnected, or even anxious for “no reason.” But that’s just your body saying, “Hey, remember other humans exist?”
For years, I lived in overdrive - surrounded by people, radios, and sirens - so when I finally got space, it felt like bliss. But over time, that silence turned into isolation. My nervous system didn’t know what to do with peace anymore. And here’s the kicker: being “independent” doesn’t mean being disconnected.
And when Nick comes home and starts talking about the guys he works with - sometimes just shit talking 😂 - I can’t help but feel a little jealous. I miss that banter. The jokes, the sarcasm, the “can you believe this idiot?!” stories. That kind of everyday human chaos used to drive me nuts, but it also reminded me that I belonged somewhere.
So this week’s reminder is simple: Connection doesn’t always have to be draining - it just has to fuel you somehow. A quick call with a friend, a smile at the coffee shop, a dog curled up next to your desk - that’s all your body needs to remember you’re not alone.
Mini Practice: “The Micro-Connect”
Pick one low-stakes connection today: • Text someone a random thought or memory. • Make small talk with the barista. • Sit at a park bench near people for a few minutes.
Let your nervous system borrow a little bit of someone else’s calm. We are energy beings - we crave connection - whether we want to admit it or not.
Heck, sometimes I’ll wander down to the corner store just to grab an energy drink - not because I need it, but because it might be the only human interaction I get all day.
The cashier’s from India and loves Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills. One night he asked Nick if he was a Bills fan because of his hat… Nick, bless his heart, thinking it was just a random bison on the hat 🥴 (As you can tell, we go there enough to know both the night cashier and his cousin who works days.)
⚡ Energy Audit Workshop
You might have seen me talk about this lately on my social media... and that's honestly because I'm just SO DARN excited about hosting my first LIVE workshop for you guys.
If you’ve been feeling that disconnection creeping in, this workshop is your chance to plug your energy leaks before the holidays hit full swing.
The 50% promo ends tonight at 11:59 PM EST — grab your spot for only $23.50 (normally $47). You’ll get access to the LIVE session on Thursdayand the downloadable replay in case you can’t make it live.
You can also add on a 1:1 Brainspotting Session for just $50 - a powerful somatic experience to help your body release stored tension and emotional overload.
If you’re not sure what that looks like, check out Maddison’s experience here. If you’ve ever heard of EMDR, it’s very similar - just more somatic, more embodied, and a whole lot gentler on your system.

Because apparently avoiding small talk wasn’t in the cards. ↓ ↓ ↓ Hey Reader, Let me take you on a little cosmic moment the universe decided to throw at me.
